Iran Launches ‘The Islamic Resistance’ Terror Group in Syria

by Emmitt Barry, Worthy News Correspondent

(Worthy News) – Iran’s “Mehr” news agency announced on Wednesday the formation of a new terrorist group called “The Islamic Resistance in Syria,” aligned with Iran, which was founded in “light of the recent developments Syria has witnessed.”

The newly formed terrorist group aligns itself visually and ideologically with the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps and Hezbollah, declaring its formation as a “natural and legitimate response” to the ongoing divisions and displacements in Syria, symbolized by a logo featuring a raised hand clutching a rifle.

The statement from the new organization outlined its mission to represent all Syrian sects and prioritize “defending security and territorial integrity.”

It attributed the group’s formation to “the absence of the political and social forces that previously managed Syria,” a nod to the downfall of the Assad regime after December’s rebel offensive.

Additionally, the organization underscored its commitment “to defend Syria from occupation and to unite and stand against falsehood.”

However, the fall of the Assad regime has significantly weakened Iran’s influence in the region.

Shiite militias, including those from Afghanistan and Pakistan, have retreated to Iraq. At the same time, Hezbollah in Lebanon has pulled back its troops and is now focusing on smuggling out its remaining arsenal.

Despite these setbacks, terrorist cell groups linked to the former regime still sporadically clash with the new Syrian government.
